Watneys, Pale and Brown - 2007/07/05 10:01
Following the passing of my Grandfather late last month, the family had to clear out his possessions.
Whilst doing this I discovered a black and white Photo of Ernie Wise and Eric Morecombe taken whilst doing thier first ever television commercial for Watneys, Pale and Brown Ale. It is not dated but I would say it was from around the mid-seventies. On the reverse of the photo is the following:-
To John Churchward and the boys in the trade
Been having a wonderful time makeing our first ever television commercials. Very happy that they should be for Watneys, Pale and Brown. There's one on us anytime we drop by. Cheers
It is then signed by Eric Morecombe and Ernie Wise. My Grandfather used to be a builder so I am presuming he worked at one time for a company making sets for the BBC, whilst he lived in London.
Any thoughts or help with tracing who John Churchward is or when this commercial was made would be grateful. My e-mail is traceypine@aol.com.
